US to Expand Nuclear Arsenal Amidst Threats: WSJ
The United States may proceed to expand its nuclear arsenal due to perceived threats from China, Russia, and North Korea. However, this decision will rest with the future administration of Donald Trump, who won the presidential elections. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing senior officials from the Biden administration.
"The US must be prepared to enhance its nuclear capabilities to counter the rising threats from China, Russia, and North Korea. The decision regarding the deployment of additional nuclear weapons will remain at the discretion of the incoming Trump administration, which has yet to outline its defense plans," the publication states.
According to the newspaper, the US sees a threat in the increasing capabilities of China and North Korea, as well as the cessation of dialogue with Russia over the reduction of strategic offensive weapons treaties. Moreover, during his first presidential term, Trump approved all major nuclear weapons programs that had been initiated under former President Barack Obama’s administration.
