India Sends First Battery of Akash Air Defence System to Armenia
India has dispatched the first battery of the Akash air defence missile system to Armenia. This was reported by The New Indian Express.
The article notes that the Akash system, developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and produced by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system capable of targeting fighter jets, missiles (both cruise and surface-to-air), drones, and other aerial threats at a range of 25 km.
Each battery of the Akash system is equipped with a Rajendra 3D passive electronically scanned array radar and four launchers, each carrying three interconnected missiles.
