The U.S. Imposes Sanctions on RT and Margarita Simonyan
On Wednesday, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury announced the decision to add the RT television network and its chief editor Margarita Simonyan to the sanctions list. This was reported by Interfax.
The list also includes RT's deputy editors, Yelizaveta Brodskaya and Anton Anisimov.
The U.S. Treasury Department stated that sanctions are being imposed on a total of 10 individuals and 2 legal entities. “This is being done as part of a systematic action by U.S. authorities in response to Russia's attempts to influence the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential elections,” the statement said.
The Treasury Department clarified that the sanctions involve the blocking of property of individuals listed under U.S. sanctions, as well as property under the control of U.S. citizens. Furthermore, all related financial transactions within the United States or through U.S. territory are prohibited.
