The Russian armed forces are preparing to launch new massive strikes against Ukraine's energy facilities, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on its Telegram channel. The military department described it as a "response step to the continued attacks by the Kyiv regime on Russia's civil infrastructure and fuel-energy sector."

According to two sources from Reuters, by the end of August 2026, the volume of gasoline production in Russia has dropped to about 70% of the level required for domestic consumption due to strikes by the Ukrainian armed forces on Russian oil refineries. Earlier, Bloomberg, citing Kremlin-leaning sources, reported that Russia is preparing to intensify attacks on Ukraine, believing that peaceful negotiations have reached an impasse.

Moscow is currently exploring the possibility of launching more aggressive strikes against Kyiv, including its central regions, using ballistic missiles with non-nuclear warheads. Possible targets for the Russian armed forces include infrastructure facilities located in Ukrainian cities, said anonymous sources from the publication. They estimate that the pressure of sanctions on the Russian economy and Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries and logistics centers will not force Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war.
