The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on August 31, 2026, in Bishkek during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. This was reported by the government.

The leaders emphasized the historical significance of the pre-signing of the peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the joint statement signed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev at the peace summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, with the testimony of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The export of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, the transit of grain and other goods from third countries through Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the establishment of trade relations between the two countries, were highlighted as important practical manifestations of strengthening peace.

The leaders also welcomed interactions between the business communities and exchanged ideas on further expansion of mutually beneficial economic, trade, and energy cooperation.
