The United Kingdom Halts Certain Arms Sales to Israel
The authorities in the United Kingdom have decided to halt the export of certain types of arms to Israel due to concerns that they may be used in violation of international legal norms, as stated in a declaration published on the UK government’s website on Monday.
“There is an evident risk that certain types of British arms exported to Israel could be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law or contribute to such violations,” said UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
The decision will affect approximately 30 of the 350 licenses for arms exports to Israel. Moreover, the suspension will pertain to types of arms that, according to London, are being used during operations in Gaza.
UK Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Jonathan Reynolds, explained that the list of items whose export has been suspended includes parts for fighter jets, helicopters, and drones.
