NATO Deputy Secretary General Resigns
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană, has officially resigned, and his resignation has been accepted by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. This was announced in a statement from the alliance's press service, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“Stoltenberg accepted his resignation and thanked Geoană for his service,” states the document. “He has served NATO for nearly five years. His focus on technology and emerging security challenges has been crucial for promoting the Alliance's innovation. He is a true transatlanticist, and his work with partners has greatly benefited NATO. I wish him all the best in the future,” Stoltenberg added.
The decision will take effect on September 10. Earlier, Politico reported that Geoană is preparing to leave his position as Deputy Secretary General in order to run in the Romanian presidential elections.
