VIDEO: Pashinyan in Kiran – Cuts Red Ribbon of New School with His Wife
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the village of Kiran in the Tavush region today, September 2, accompanied by his wife, Anna Hakobyan. They visited the newly-built school in the village and cut the red ribbon to inaugurate it.
Earlier, NEWS.am reported that ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, servicemen had already appeared in the area surrounding the school. It is noteworthy that the newly-constructed school, located just a few meters from the border, is ready for operation, and cleaning works are currently being conducted in the area.
Significantly, just hours before Pashinyan's visit, security personnel removed all employees and journalists from the school to inspect the area.
The new 100-seat school in Kiran will accept 34 students this year, three of whom are first graders. Last year, the school had 41 students, marking a decrease of 7, as according to the principal, several students will continue their education at a basic school, and some have transferred to other schools due to border demarcation issues.
“For now, we will go to the new building since the old one is more dangerous than the new one, it is classified as a level 3-4 hazardous building. Once they are not able to adapt, then a new school will be built for them,” said school principal Volodya Babinyan.
To ensure that schoolchildren are not literally in the line of sight of Azerbaijani border guards, a separating wall has been constructed.
