Peskov Comments on Durov's Arrest in France
The founder of the messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, has faced questions in Russia regarding his activities, but he has not been detained there. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, made this statement while commenting on Durov's arrest in France.
“No one has detained him (Durov) here. Of course, there have been questions. Yes, indeed, terrorists use the Telegram network,” Peskov said to journalist Pavel Zarubin, as posted on his Telegram channel.
Durov was arrested at Le Bourget Airport in Paris on August 24. The businessman's arrest has sparked widespread public criticism in several countries. In France, Durov is suspected of ten violations and criminal offenses, including facilitating the use of an online platform for conducting illegal transactions by an organized group.
