We are against the perception held by Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Russia: Aghazaryan
I personally believe that at least only Russia cannot be a mediator. I view that with skepticism, not trust. This was noted by the MP from the 'Civil Contract' faction, Hovik Aghazaryan, in an interview with NEWS.am regarding whether the Russian mediation is desirable for the government in the current phase of Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations.
As a Member of Parliament and a citizen, I exclude the possibility that only Russia can be a mediator. That is my personal opinion, not my team's; I consider it wrong and counterproductive for Russia to be the sole mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan while excluding anyone else, as Russia in many instances acts as a party involved.
The West does not exclusively side with Armenia; it is more objective. Therefore, their mediation is more acceptable, while Russia's mediation is subjective because it is almost positioned as a side.
Specifically concerning the 'Zangezur Corridor,' he emphasized.
Addressing the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, which claims that Armenia is sabotaging the implementation of the 9th point of the November 9 statement, Aghazaryan said, 'In some ways, it is ridiculous to talk about a document whose points have not been fulfilled. Now they also do not want to implement it in accordance with international norms and the sovereign rights of states, but want to do it differently, labeling us as the ones sabotaging it. We are not sabotaging anything; we are against the perception held by Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Russia regarding the unblocking of borders. We oppose any loss of our rights over our territories.'
'If Lavrov, Putin, Aliyev, Pashinyan, Erdogan, Georgia, and Iran are interested in sustainable peace in the region, it must be based on international law, not on the power and capabilities of states.'
