VIDEO. Citizen Attempted to Smuggle Drugs via HayPost: What We Know
The State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal transport of drugs and psychoactive substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.
Recently, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Security Department of the NSS received information that a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran had illegally imported drugs into Armenia and was preparing to send them to the Cooperative of Australia.
Acting on the received information, officials from the Anti-Smuggling Department of the SRC, in collaboration with officers from the NSS Anti-Corruption and Economic Security Department, conducted an inspection at one of the branches of HayPost LLC in the city of Kapan. They searched an international postal shipment sent through HayPost from an Iranian citizen identified as S.Y. to H.I. destined for the Cooperative of Australia.
As a result of the inspection, two leather bags were found. Inside the walls of these bags, in specially designed hideouts, were a total of 233 grams of a dark brown viscous and solid substance resembling the type of drug known as 'opium.'
A report on the case of smuggling has been compiled under Articles 399 and 34-399 of the RA Criminal Code, and based on the existence of reasonable suspicion directly arising from the drug smuggling, an Iranian citizen was arrested near the mentioned branch.
The arrested individual, along with the compiled materials, was presented to the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Syunik Province, where they were detained within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings.
Notice: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law by a final and conclusive verdict of the court as stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
