Belarusian Air Force Scrambles Fighter Jet
On August 29, during a massive Russian assault on Ukrainian cities, a Russian "Shahed" drone once again entered Belarusian territory. According to the Belarusian television channel "Belaruski Hayun," after the drone breached the airspace of the country, the Belarusian Air Force scrambled a fighter jet that "pursued the intruder for about 20 minutes."
The channel notes that around four in the morning, the drone could have been shot down in the Yelsk area of Gomel region, where local residents heard at least two explosions and saw bright flashes in the sky. If confirmed, this would be the first instance of a Belarusian Air Force fighter jet firing on a real military target.
This is not the first occasion that "Shaheds," used by Russia to attack Ukraine, have flown into Belarusian territory.
