All Passports of Durov Seized; He Is a Citizen of 5 Countries
“All the passports that he had in his possession have been seized during the investigation, meaning he does not have the ability to leave France by air, sea, or land,” said Irina Sidorova, a member of the Paris and Nice Bar Association, to Russian media.
The co-founder of Telegram is a citizen of four countries: Russia, France, the UAE, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Durov was arrested at Paris’s Le Bourget Airport on August 24. Later, the Paris prosecutor's office reported that he had been detained on July 8 in connection with a case involving an “unnamed individual,” related to suspicions of committing 12 crimes.
Specifically, French authorities are investigating Durov’s involvement in concealing data regarding illegal activities online. Additionally, there are suspicions in Paris that he may be a “participant” in crimes such as the distribution of child pornography and drug trafficking. He is also suspected of not cooperating with authorities that presented legal demands to the messenger service.
