The ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Sergey Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov
The International Criminal Court's pre-trial chamber has issued an arrest warrant for former Russian Defense Minister and current Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, as well as Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. This information has been confirmed on the ICC's website.
The court accuses both high-ranking officials of committing 'war crimes' for strikes against civilian objects in Ukraine. Specifically, it is noted that there are grounds to believe that Shoigu and Gerasimov are responsible for missile strikes on Ukraine's electrical infrastructure carried out by the Russian armed forces between October 10, 2022, and March 9, 2023.
