A case has been initiated against legendary chess player and world champion Garry Kasparov in Moscow. The criminal case threatens Kasparov under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to evading obligations outlined in Russian legislation concerning foreign agents. According to sources, there are currently sufficient grounds for this.
If a criminal case is initiated, Kasparov could face up to two years of imprisonment or a fine, as noted by representatives of law enforcement agencies.
The Ministry of Justice included Kasparov in the list of foreign agents in May 2022, citing "the implementation of political activities."
