Trump Claims He Would Be Prepared to Bomb Moscow and Beijing
Former U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly stated during an event with supporters that he would have been prepared to "bomb Moscow" if the conflict in Ukraine had begun during his presidency. This was reported by the Washington Post, citing its sources.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors, the statement was made during a fundraising event and was conveyed indirectly. Trump discussed his hypothetical actions if he were currently the U.S. president. He stated that "if Russia sent troops to Ukraine and China to Taiwan," he would be prepared to "bomb Moscow and Beijing," writes WP.
These statements appeared to have "surprised some of the supporters." The former president often uses such events to comment on foreign policy, inflation, and U.S. migration issues while attempting to raise significant funds from donors, notes WP.
The publication pointed out this moment, emphasizing that Trump’s public stance differs from the statements allegedly conveyed during private conversations. For example, on May 26, the businessman spoke at a liberal national conference in Washington, where he again vowed to prioritize ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if he returned to the White House.
On May 24, Trump criticized current U.S. President Joe Biden at a rally in the South Bronx, contrasting him with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he sees as leading figures in global politics. Since then, there have been no reports of changes in Trump’s stance.
Last year, Trump claimed he could resolve the Ukrainian conflict in one day, although he did not clarify how. At the end of March this year, he reaffirmed his willingness to participate in negotiations if he won the U.S. presidential election, assuring that he has something to say to both Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Specifically, CNN, citing its sources, reported that Trump intends to reach out to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine the day after his re-election.
The Kremlin has stated that they do not understand how Trump intends to resolve the conflict, given the lack of communication with him on this matter. Zelensky immediately rejected Trump’s ideas.
