Iran to Purchase 12 Helicopters Worth $500 Million from Russia
Iran has signed a contract with Russia to purchase 12 Mi-17 helicopters, which will be used to service the Iranian Red Crescent Society. According to Avio News, the value of the deal is approximately $500 million.
The Russian Helicopters state company is expected to deliver the first four helicopters to Iran as early as March 2025. The agreement still needs to be finalized with Iran's Ministry of Industry.
The new helicopters will be equipped with night vision systems, allowing flights to be conducted in poor visibility conditions.
This helicopter supply agreement was concluded just days after a tragic aviation accident that claimed the lives of the President of Iran, the Foreign Minister, and their companions. An American-made Bell-212 helicopter crashed on May 19 in northwestern Iran.
