2 Reasons Why Pashinyan Did Not Come to Sardarapat, Bishop Bagrat Mentioned Them
The leader of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, outlined the potential reasons for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's absence from Sardarapat today.
It is customary for the Prime Minister and government members to visit Sardarapat in the morning, but today they have not arrived at the memorial complex. Media reports indicate that Pashinyan will not be going to Sardarapat.
"The first reason is probably that he no longer has any connection with our country and our symbols. He has declared the absurdity of a historical and real Armenia; perhaps this is part of historical Armenia. The second reason is that maybe there was an external directive that he should not come to Sardarapat," the bishop stated to reporters at the memorial complex.
He mentioned that he has visited Sardarapat every year since he was 16 or 17 years old, and they have come this time to make a pilgrimage, as it is a sacred site.
After the press briefing, Archbishop Bagrat and the leader of the Shirak Diocese, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, laid flowers at the memorial complex. A prayer was then offered, and everyone sang the Armenian national anthem together.
Archbishop Mikael also commented on Pashinyan's absence from Sardarapat: "He is in flight. What can he do? A coward always avoids, and if he weren't cowardly, he would come and meet people," Ajapahyan said.
Bagrat and supporters of the movement drove to Sardarapat on May 27, spending the night at the memorial complex to commemorate the Day of the First Republic of Armenia on May 28.
It is worth noting that the First Republic of Armenia was proclaimed on May 28, 1918, and existed until 1920.
