Deputy Chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff Arrested
Vadim Shamarin, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and Chief of the Communications Directorate, has been arrested. This was reported by "Kommersant." A source from the law enforcement agencies confirmed that the general's home was searched in connection with an alleged fraud case.
As a result, Vadim Shamarin was transferred for questioning to the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. He is accused of receiving a particularly large bribe, which could lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
It is noteworthy that a wave of arrests of officials continues within the Russian Ministry of Defense. Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov and the head of the Personnel Main Directorate, General-Lieutenant Yuri Kuznetsov, were arrested. Both are accused of receiving particularly large bribes.
Yuri Kuznetsov is accused of receiving a bribe of 30.5 million rubles, while Timur Ivanov is accused of receiving 1.185 billion rubles.
On May 17, Ivan Popov, the former commander of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District, was arrested in connection with a fraud case.
