Armenia and Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers to Meet Today
The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, will meet today, May 10, in Almaty.
It is noteworthy that there was an agreement for a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani ministers at the proposal of the Kazakh side. Yerevan had previously stated that it agrees to negotiations with Baku regarding a peace treaty in Kazakhstan.
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev had publicly spoken about the meeting between Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov in Astana. This followed the visit of Kazakhstan's President to Armenia. In Yerevan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that they are ready to provide a negotiation platform for both sides.
The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the initiative to hold this meeting. The Kazakh side, for its part, stated that Astana is not acting as a mediator, but simply providing a platform.
