VIDEO: Protesters Tear Down Russian Flag Outside Georgian Parliament
In Tbilisi, participants of a protest organized against the so-called "foreign agents bill" have torn down the Russian flag outside the Georgian Parliament building. This has been reported by TASS and RIA Novosti correspondents.
Initially, those gathered at the service entrance near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue intended to set the flag on fire, TASS reported. To execute this plan, they tied the flag to the gates. However, about 10 minutes later, the protesters removed the flag from the gates and tore it apart, according to RIA Novosti.
The protests in Georgia were triggered by discussions surrounding the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" bill, which the Georgian opposition has referred to as analogous to the Russian law on foreign agents. On May 1, the bill was adopted in the parliament in its second reading, receiving support from 83 members and opposition from 23.
