VIDEO: Strong Winds Cause Dust Storm and Fires in Irkutsk
Winds reaching speeds of 28-30 meters per second have triggered a dust storm and increased the risk of fire in Irkutsk. Emergency responders are tackling multiple fires simultaneously, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Irkutsk region.
According to the regional emergencies department, units are currently extinguishing a fire that broke out in a residential building and economic structures on Shevtsova Street. The fire has been localized to an area of 100 square meters.
Firefighting efforts continue on Traktovaya Street where construction buildings have caught fire. Firefighters are also at work in the village of Maksimovshchina, on School Street, where another residential house has been engulfed in flames.
Additionally, due to flooding, a mandatory evacuation has been declared in the KurGAN region of Russia.
Another fire has erupted in the backyard of a private house on Dorozhnaya Street, damaging the house and the bathhouse.
According to the city administration's press service, wind gusts have reached speeds of 28-30 meters per second.
