Russia to Inquire with Armenia on Simonyan's Statements: 'He Has Crossed All Red Lines'
The Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, has ordered an inquiry to be sent to the Armenian Parliament regarding anti-Russian statements made by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan. She made this announcement during a plenary session.
While speaking at a conference of the Presidents of Parliaments of EU countries, Alen Simonyan stated that in light of the focus on Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Middle Eastern conflict, he wants to affirm that Armenia "decisively supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as that of Moldova, Georgia, Cyprus, and all countries."
"I want to ask my colleague, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, on whose behalf he has made such statements. Surely, not on behalf of the Armenian people, with whom Russia has a centuries-old friendship. We cannot ignore such Russophobic speeches. I will send a written inquiry to the Armenian Parliament asking on whose behalf he has spoken and whether the Armenian Parliament shares these assessments," said Matviyenko.
She expressed hope that the Armenian Parliament would question Simonyan on "who gave him the right to speak in the name of Armenia and also to provide such assessments."
"We will not ignore this kind of Russophobic, anti-Russian speeches. Our partner has already crossed all red lines," stated Matviyenko.
The head of the Federation Council’s Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, added that Alen Simonyan has "crossed all conceivable and unimaginable boundaries."
"Statements regarding Russia's invasion, as well as Armenia's strong support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, we consider as direct solidarity with Kyiv’s neo-Nazi regime. It turns out that Simonyan undermines our sovereignty and disregards the will of the residents of the new subjects of the Federation to reunite with their homeland, as clearly expressed during the referendum," he said.
