Azerbaijan is our great neighbor, friend, partner, and ally: Peskov
Russia and Azerbaijan's bilateral relations are distinguished by rich traditions and significant potential for cooperation development. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a regular press briefing with journalists.
During the event, reporters asked him to comment on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Moscow. They noted that the president's visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM).
Moreover, media representatives were interested in the reasons behind Russian President Vladimir Putin's strong attention towards Azerbaijan. Peskov explained, "This is our great neighbor, friend, partner, and ally. Indeed, we have many common interests. We have great potential for cooperation, and importantly, we have a rich tradition in our bilateral relations."
He added that Moscow and Baku have the political will to further strengthen their ties.
Today, Aliyev arrived in the capital of Russia for a working visit. The press service of the Azerbaijani president emphasized that the visit was organized at Putin's invitation. It is expected that negotiations between the leaders of the two countries will take place in Moscow soon. During the meeting, Putin and Aliyev will discuss the situation in the South Caucasus and the development of relations between the two countries.
