In New York, a powerful lightning strike hit the Statue of Liberty, directly on the torch. Remarkable footage has already spread across social media. This was reported by the New York Post.

The monument itself was not damaged, according to a statement from the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation's press office.

“Even if people had been inside the statue at the moment of the lightning strike, it was safe; no one was harmed,” they added.
