Spain Plans to Officially Recognize the State of Palestine
Spain is set to officially recognize the State of Palestine in the near future, before the upcoming summer. This announcement was made by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during an official visit to the Middle East.
He stated that he would propose to the Spanish Parliament the recognition of the Palestinian state. The Prime Minister emphasized that he anticipates Spain will officially recognize the Palestinian state by July 2024.
Sánchez also expressed his belief that a "critical mass" will soon form within the European Union, encouraging other member countries to follow Spain's lead on this issue.
The statement further noted that the only path to achieving lasting and sustainable peace in the region is through a "two-state" solution, where Israel and Palestine will live side by side in peace and security.
