Pashinyan Presents Troop Mirror Withdrawal Proposal to Stoltenberg
During a joint press conference in Yerevan today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented the government's vision and approaches for establishing stability and peace in the South Caucasus to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Pashinyan specifically stated, “I reaffirm our previously expressed willingness to normalize relations with Azerbaijan based on three principles agreed at the highest level. These are: recognition of each other's territorial integrity based on the Alma-Ata Declaration, restoration of the borders that existed between the two republics at the time of the USSR collapse in 1991 for the demarcation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan interstate border, as well as the unblocking of regional infrastructures, respecting the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the transit countries, and based on the principles of equality and reciprocity.”
Regarding this, I also presented the “Peace Crossroads” project, which complements our visions on the topic. We expect the steadfast support of the international community, including NATO, for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on agreed-upon principles, as well as a clear rejection of the policy of coercion and threats.
I also presented proposals regarding the mirror withdrawal of troops from the 1991 Armenia-Azerbaijan border, mutual control of armaments, and the signing of a non-aggression treaty, which have so far not received a positive response from official Baku.
