New Service Launching in Yerevan: Vehicles Will Be Towed to Special Areas for Littering
A municipal service will be implemented in Yerevan, which will be delegated the authority of the mayor in ensuring public order. Taron Margaryan, head of the legal department, stated this during a working meeting at the Yerevan city hall on March 4.
“The municipal service will essentially carry out the authorities currently held by the mayor, but thanks to additional tools, these authorities will be implemented more efficiently, and mechanisms will be established to fully exercise these powers, particularly in relation to illegal land seizures and the construction of unauthorized buildings,” he said.
An important new tool being introduced is the authority to halt the activities of entities conducting business without permission or in violation of the conditions of the permit. “New powers are planned that will allow us to combat the construction of unauthorized structures on land owned by physical and legal persons and to eliminate the consequences. Currently, our only option is to impose administrative fines.
A significant reform is also providing the municipal service with the ability to tow vehicles to special areas when necessary, as we currently do not have the ability to process administrative violations for littering from vehicles or for vehicles exiting construction sites in a polluted state. Many times, vehicles are parked in places that disrupt the normal functioning of the city, particularly blocking transport activities at stops or disrupting waste collection and other essential services by parking in certain public areas,” added Taron Margaryan.
