Over 110 Palestinians Killed in Crush Near Humanitarian Aid Convoy in Gaza
Over 110 Palestinians have lost their lives in a crush that occurred near a convoy transporting humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. A crowd waiting for aid surrounded the convoy of trucks as it passed through an Israeli military checkpoint on the coastal road west of Gaza City.
Israeli military officials reported that troops opened fire on some Palestinians whom the soldiers believed posed a threat. In the ensuing chaos, the trucks attempted to move forward. A Palestinian witness to the incident confirmed to the BBC that many of the deceased were struck by the vehicles.
The health ministry controlled by Hamas in Gaza accused Israel of responsibility for the tragedy, while U.S. President Joe Biden expressed concern that the incident would complicate U.S. and other mediating efforts to establish a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.
