Medvedev Claims Nuclear War Could Begin Accidentally
The world is not insured against the unintended start of nuclear conflict. This was stated on February 22 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, according to TASS.
“There are still random events that no one is insured against. The accidental and unintended initiation of nuclear conflict cannot be ignored, and therefore all these maneuvers around Ukraine are extremely dangerous,” he said.
As an illustrative situation that could lead to such a conflict, Medvedev cited the supply of Western-produced F-16 fighters to Ukraine, which representatives of NATO member countries have been discussing regularly. Given that there are currently no such aircraft based in Ukraine, they could be deployed from bases located in the territory of a NATO member state.
“I won’t even describe what could happen later. Although this could occur almost accidentally, rather than intentionally, it could even be unapproved at the highest level of NATO and U.S. leadership. Therefore, unfortunately, such a turn of events is possible,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.
