Draft to Strip Hayk Marutyan and Other Council Members of Mandate Receives Positive Conclusion
The legal issues permanent committee of the Yerevan City Council has given a positive conclusion to the draft proposals for stripping opposition members of their mandates. The leader of the City Council's "Civil Contract" faction, Armen Galjyan, presented the draft, emphasizing that a widespread boycott mentality prevails.
"The legal sanctions are put in place precisely to prevent permanent boycotts, so that the governance of the city is not harmed. One may boycott for political reasons on a specific issue, but a recurring boycott disrupts the management of the city," he stated.
It is proposed to suspend the powers of Yerevan City Council members Hayk Marutyan, Gevorg Stepanyan, Narine Hayrapetyan, Zaruhy Postanjyan, and Sona Aghekyan due to their unjustified absences from council meetings and failure to participate in over half of the voting or half of the committee meetings.
