Farmers Block Highway Between Netherlands and Belgium
Dutch and Belgian farmers have blocked the highway at the Dutch Limburg province border checkpoint of Eisden. This has been reported by RIA Novosti.
It is noted that more than 100 tractors and agricultural vehicles are participating in the spontaneous protest organized by farmers from the Netherlands and Belgium. As a precautionary measure, the road near the Eisden border checkpoint has been closed in both northern and southern directions.
The farmers aim to draw attention to the increasingly strict measures and regulations being imposed on them by the EU and national governments. In recent days, protests by farmers have been rising in EU countries, demanding changes to the pan-European agricultural policy, the removal of numerous restrictions—including environmental ones—and the cessation of uncontrolled imports of cheap goods. Various trade union associations argue that farmers' work within the EU has practically ceased to be profitable due to the policies of the European Commission and member countries.
