Putin Will Not Get It Back: State Department
The spokesperson for the State Department has announced that Russia will not get back Alaska, which was sold to the U.S. in the 19th century. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.
“I think I can speak for everyone in the U.S. government when I say that he (Russian President Vladimir Putin) will not get it back,” said the Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State.
He made the remarks during a press briefing in response to a journalist's question, who claimed that Putin had allegedly signed a decree declaring the sale of Alaska as “illegal.”
The inquiry might have been inspired by the presidential decree that allocated funds for the legal protection of foreign real estate owned by the Russian Federation, the former Russian Empire, and the USSR abroad.
On Monday, the American magazine Newsweek addressed the views of some “extreme nationalist bloggers,” who, according to its data, interpret the signed document as a basis for claims against Russia's neighbors, including the United States.
