Pakistan Refuses to Celebrate New Year
The acting Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, has banned all New Year celebrations in the country in a show of solidarity with Palestine. This was reported by the Geo television channel.
"The people of Pakistan are in a sad state, and considering the situation, the government of Pakistan has decided to prohibit all New Year celebrations. I call on all Pakistanis to express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians and maintain clarity at the dawn of the New Year," Kakar said in a televised address.
Earlier, the city of Sharjah in the UAE also announced a ban on New Year festivities in honor of solidarity with Palestine.
