Russia's Foreign Ministry on Vatican's Decision to Bless Same-Sex Couples

The Vatican's decision to bless same-sex couples is an internal church issue. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing, as reported by RIA Novosti.

"I believe this is an internal church matter for the Vatican, and perhaps questions should be directed there," Zakharova said, adding that the basis of Catholic doctrine has not changed.

The Russian diplomat expressed hope that allowing priests to bless same-sex couples would not affect Russian-Vatican cooperation.

"Russia's position on this issue, which is enshrined in President Vladimir Putin's decree on preserving traditional spiritual and moral values, differs from the Vatican's stance," Zakharova clarified.

It is recalled that the Vatican recently officially allowed the blessing of same-sex couples.
