«We Acknowledge That This Is Armenia’s Sovereign Territory»: Representative of Azerbaijan's President
Elchin Amirbekov, the representative of Azerbaijan's President, gave an interview to the BBC.
The media outlet reports: “Many are concerned in Armenia that the opening of the Zangezur corridor could lead to a ‘creeping’ loss of sovereignty over the Armenian territory adjacent to Iran. Armenia fears that it will be forced to fully relinquish control.”
In his interview with the BBC’s Russian service, Amirbekov stated: “We acknowledge that this is Armenia’s sovereign territory. But it is important for us to know how the other side will ensure the safety of traffic through the corridor,” he noted.
According to him, Baku is ready for negotiations, but if Armenia decides to delay the process, Azerbaijan is prepared to construct the route through Iranian territory.
