VIDEO: Russia Records Attempts to Promote NATO's Interests in the Caucasus Through Armenia – Lavrov

Russia has noted attempts to promote NATO’s interests in the Caucasus through Armenia. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference following the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS in Bishkek.

According to the minister, the escalation of anti-Russian sentiments is artificially fostered in some cases. “We know how many non-governmental organizations have been created in Armenia in recent years. Yes, there were not few of them in the past either. These organizations are not created to promote friendly relations between Armenia and Russia. Quite the opposite, their aim is to create a ground for anti-Russian sentiments and prepare to promote the interests of the USA, EU, and NATO in that region through Armenia,” Lavrov said.

In his view, these attempts have achieved some results, but Russia firmly believes that the majority of the Armenian people are interested in developing traditional fraternal ties with the Russian Federation. Lavrov also referred to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's recent interview, in which he stated that Armenia has not changed any vector. Moscow hopes that this position will prevail, despite attempts to steer Yerevan in another direction.
