Displaced Teachers to Receive 30% Salary Increase Alongside Regular Pay, Says Deputy Prime Minister

Displaced teachers from Artsakh have the opportunity to find employment without a competitive process. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Khachatryan, during a government meeting.

He noted that currently there are 1,500 vacant positions where a non-competitive process is applicable. The Deputy Prime Minister informed that a teacher displaced from Artsakh can choose a vacant position and submit an application to occupy that place.

“In addition to their salary, teachers forcibly displaced from Artsakh will receive a 30% increase in their salary. This, according to the general procedure, occurs when the ministry assigns the teacher to a specific region,” Khachatryan clarified.

He added that the Armenian government has also identified certain settlements where, in addition to the 30% increase, there will be an additional 50,000 dram bonus. These areas include the Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions, as well as the towns of Gegharquniq, Jambarak, Vardenis, and the Tavush region’s Novemberyan, Ijevan, and Berdavan towns.

“Thus, by encouraging people’s choices towards long-term directions to border areas or regions where we would like them to go, we are also considering a differentiated approach to formulating a housing support program. These will be incentives for people to take this into account in their decisions,” he emphasized.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, also stated that the conditions for applying for vacant positions for displaced teachers from Artsakh have been simplified as much as possible. According to her, the electronic platform will be operational starting tomorrow, allowing teachers to enter their data, register, and view available job vacancies by subject and location.
