Aliyev on Roads to Nakhichevan via Iran
"Azerbaijan is a reliable transit country, and our transport and logistics infrastructure is open to all countries." This statement was made by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in a message to participants of the 27th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization's Council of Ministers.
"Considering the growing demand for cargo transportation along the East-West route, we aim to increase the volume of goods transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. We have also reached an agreement with Iran regarding the construction of a road and railway that will allow entry into Nakhichevan via Iranian territory. Azerbaijan is also actively working to further expand the capabilities of the North-South transport corridor," Aliyev stated.
