No One from the State Revenue Committee Has Yet Met with Drivers Importing Cars with Georgian License Plates
Drivers importing cars with Georgian license plates, who are protesting a new bill that requires Armenian citizens and dual citizens to pay the full amount of customs clearance as a deposit when entering Armenia with these vehicles, have yet to meet with anyone from the State Revenue Committee (SRC). This information was shared by the drivers to NEWS.am.
It is worth noting that they held a protest in front of the SRC on August 28, demanding the cancellation of the proposed law currently under discussion.
They stated that under the new bill, the entire customs deposit must be paid upfront and will be returned after the vehicle leaves the country.
In connection with this issue, during today’s National Assembly session, SRC Deputy Chairman Arthur Manukyan mentioned that the regulation does not imply that vehicles with Georgian license plates must be mandatorily customs cleared. “The question pertains to light passenger cars that are temporarily imported into Armenia for one year. An essential condition for temporary importation is the prior submission of a guarantee. Since after one year these vehicles continue to remain in Armenia, various options for resolving the issue are being discussed by the government. This does not pertain to the vehicles that have been imported and must be mandatorily customs cleared, but SRC’s proposal is to present a cash deposit instead of that insurance coverage as a guarantee. This has been the regulation, and the issue is still under discussion,” he stated.
