President of the Artsakh National Assembly Sends Letters to Speakers of Several Countries' Parliaments
The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, Davit Ishkhanyan, has sent letters to the speakers of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Senate of the French Republic, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Congress, and the European Parliament. The letters were delivered to the embassies of those countries in Yerevan.
In the letters, highlighting the rights of the people of Artsakh, the prevailing humanitarian crisis, and the blockade imposed by Azerbaijan, the President of the National Assembly emphasized that Azerbaijan's aim is to starve the Armenian people and continue its genocidal policies.
“For millennia, Artsakh has been a bastion of Armenian civilization and a center of early Christianity. The people of Artsakh have long fought for their freedom and self-determination against seemingly insurmountable forces, from the horrors of the genocidal regime of the Ottoman Empire to the oppression of Soviet authority. And today, despite the constant threats stemming from Azerbaijan's brutal regime, we have built a democratic society that many aspire to,” the letter states.
Davit Ishkhanyan expects the parliaments of these countries to exert political and diplomatic pressure to neutralize the Azerbaijani threats and protect the fundamental and inalienable rights of the people.
