Armenian Teen Boxers Win Record 13 Medals at European Championship
The Armenian national boxing team for juniors has won 2 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals at the European Championship held in Slovenia, according to the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
Notably, the 13 medals achieved are a record for Armenian boxing history in this age category.
Karlen Zakaryan (50 kg) and Arsen Darbinyan (54 kg) have claimed the title of European Junior Champions. Zakaryan secured a decisive victory over Ireland’s Jason Maher in the finals, while Darbinyan won 5:0 against a representative from Romania.
The runners-up in the European Championship include Hrach Khachatryan (80 kg), Lianna Zhamharyan (44 kg), Hamesh Afrikyan (46 kg), and Anahit Harutyunyan (48 kg).
Seven other Armenian boxers who participated in the tournament returned with bronze medals: Astghik Khachatryan (36 kg), Gor Karapetyan (46 kg), Suren Katvalyan (48 kg), Arsen Karapetyan (60 kg), Felix Papikyan (63 kg), Volodya Kirakosyan (66 kg), and Aram Tumanyan (90 kg).
The Armenian team was led by head coach Arthur Melkumyan, alongside coaching staff members Armen Baghdasaryan, Khachik Khachatryan, and Arthur Vardveryan.
