Trump Announces He Will Not Participate in Presidential Candidate Debate
Former President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not participate in the Republican presidential candidates' debate on August 23. He made this announcement via his post on the Truth Social platform.
“A new CBS poll has shown that I am in first place with a 'legendary' number: Trump at 62 percent. The public knows who I am, what a success my presidency was—with energy independence, strong borders, a robust military, the largest tax cuts, no inflation, a strong economy in history, and much more,” Trump stated. “Based on this, I will not be doing battle debates.”
Earlier, CBS and YouGov conducted a poll indicating that Trump’s position among Republican competitors is solidifying amid the backdrop of ongoing charges against him. Sixty-two percent of respondents said they would choose Trump as the presidential candidate. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 16 percent, followed by businessman Vivek Ramaswamy at 7 percent. Five percent said they would support former Vice President Mike Pence during Trump's tenure.
