21 People Killed by Landslide in China, Many Missing

At least 21 people have been killed due to a landslide in the northwestern Shaanxi province of China. This was reported by the emergency management authority of the city of Xi'an. Additionally, six people are considered missing.

Earlier, the state broadcaster CCTV had reported two fatalities and 16 missing persons.

According to agency reports, the incident occurred on August 11 in the mountains of Weizhipin village, located south of Xi'an. Heavy rainfall caused a displaced rock to destroy two residential buildings. Furthermore, roads, bridges, and power supply facilities have been damaged, reports Deutsche Welle.

Local authorities have organized rescue operations, involving over 980 people. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to restore communication and power supply in the disaster-affected area.
