The Number of Voters for Yerevan Council Elections Decreased by 25,000

The number of voters for the Yerevan Council elections, scheduled for September 17, has reached 823,559 as of July 14, which is nearly 25,000 less compared to the previous elections (September 23, 2018). This information was presented by the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, Vahagn Hovakimyan, at a press conference today.

“In the previous elections, there were 848,000 people eligible to vote. The reason, I believe, is due to the changes in the electoral code in 2021, which removed from the electoral list the data of citizens with identification documents expired for six months or more,” he stated.

Notably, political parties can start submitting their documents to the Central Electoral Commission from today to participate in the Yerevan Council elections. As of now, no party has nominated candidates.

Chairman Hovakimyan noted that political parties usually submit nomination documents closer to the deadline, in the final days.
