ECHR Gives Azerbaijan Deadline to Provide Information on Vagif Khacharyan
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has decided to grant Azerbaijan until August 8 to provide information regarding Vagif Khacharyan. This was reported by the representative of Armenia for international legal affairs.
"Azerbaijan is obliged to inform the court about the person's whereabouts, conditions of detention, health status, medical assistance received, and potential return," the representative stated on their Facebook page.
It is worth noting that on December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijani individuals in civilian clothing blocked the Stepanakert-Goris highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia under the pretext of environmental reasons, and they departed on April 28, following Azerbaijan's installation of a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor on April 23, taking full control over it. Artsakh has also been deprived of gas and electricity supplies from Armenia during this period.
Patients requiring emergency medical assistance have been relocated from Artsakh to Armenia under the mediation and escort of the ICRC. One of them, Vagif Khacharyan, was abducted by representatives of the Azerbaijani border service on July 29. The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has announced that he has been arrested. Vagif Khacharyan is alleged to have created a criminal group that participated in crimes against residents of the Meshali village in the Khojaly district on December 21, 1991.
