Video: Armenian American Girl Banned from Entering Armenia at Airport, Declares Hunger Strike

“It turns out that the current government has banned yet another Armenian from entering their homeland, the Republic of Armenia,” attorney Arsen Babayan wrote on Facebook.

“Areny Markosyan was returning to Armenia from Lebanon, after which she planned to return home to Washington. Her entry was denied last night. According to reports, Areny does not intend to return to Washington and is determined to declare a hunger strike at the ‘Zvartnots’ airport. P.S. I wonder whether more Armenian names are currently listed on Armenia's or Azerbaijan's 'blacklist,'” he added.

Areny Markosyan has released a video detailing what happened. According to her, at the passport control, her passport was taken under the pretense of needing to verify something, and it has not been returned yet. Markosyan has alerted the Armenian Human Rights Defender, but still, no updates have emerged.
