Turkey Closes Beach Due to Dozens of Unexploded Mines

A beach in the Turkish resort of Şile, located near Istanbul, has been closed. This decision was made following a report from a local resident who observed an unexploded mine at the beach. After an inspection, a total of 30 similar mines were discovered. This information was reported by the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet.

“A resident of the Sofular village in the Şile district, who had gone to the beach for swimming a few days ago, saw a mine in the sea and reported it to the police. About 30 mines were identified, and the beach is now closed,” the newspaper states.

All necessary teams, including bomb disposal experts, are currently working on-site. It has been reported that the mines are scheduled to be detonated remotely on August 1 and 2. Until then, the beach will remain closed. According to the newspaper, the ancient mines were washed ashore by the waves.
