‘But who is he to demand?’ Government Responds to Ruben Vardanyan
The Deputy Head of the Prime Minister's Office, Taron Chakhoyan, has responded to statements made by former Minister of State of Artsakh, businessman Ruben Vardanyan, regarding the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to Chakhoyan, Vardanyan is calling for clarification on the status of relations between Armenia and Artsakh, thus attempting to sow discord within those relationships and among the nation. ‘After failing the attempts of “Tatarization,” he is clearly working in that direction from Nagorno-Karabakh. He demands the signing of a new trilateral agreement between the Republic of Artsakh, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Azerbaijan. A logical question arises: from whom is he demanding - from Russia or Azerbaijan? Ruben Vardanyan is deeply mistaken if he believes that in Azerbaijan they are dreaming of signing a new trilateral agreement,’ he stated.
Chakhoyan also noted Vardanyan’s demand for an official declaration of support for the “Hayakve” initiative by the Artsakh authorities. ‘This clarifies the picture of the true owners of the “Hayakve” initiative, directed towards dragging Armenia into a new war. Ruben Vardanyan is also demanding that the Armenian authorities request the full package of the negotiation history between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the last five years. The President of Nagorno-Karabakh, Araik Harutyunyan, is fully aware of the entire negotiation history of the last five years; who is Ruben Vardanyan to make such demands?’ he wrote.
Chakhoyan also found Vardanyan’s statement about the need for Nagorno-Karabakh to negotiate and find allies to assist in these negotiations noteworthy. ‘Incidentally, the Republic of Armenia has always expressed support for dialogue between Baku and Stepanakert under international mechanisms. While serving as Minister of State, Ruben Vardanyan had all possible opportunities to dialogue and normalize relations with Azerbaijan but didn’t achieve any results; after resigning, he started to swing the sword in the air,’ he concluded.
