How Can I Look into the Eyes of a Malnourished Pregnant Woman Whose Child May Be Born with Defects? – Artsakh Human Rights Defender
In Artsakh, a public movement has commenced. The Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan, has addressed all actors in the international community.
“You speak of human rights; then tell me, how can I look into the eyes of this people and say that they too have rights? How can I look into the eyes of a malnourished pregnant woman whose child may be born with defects? How can I look into the eyes of mothers whose greatest dream is to provide just a handful of fruit or sweets for their children? How can I look into the eyes of thousands of people waiting in line for hours to receive a small amount of sugar or oil? How can I look into the eyes of 20,000 elderly people who are going through unimaginable hardships to procure their daily bread? Finally, how can I look into the eyes of a mother who has given her all for this piece of land, whose terrified gaze meets mine, fearing that she will lose her last remaining sanctity—the grave of her child?
Answer me, I want you to look into their eyes, I want you to respond to them because I can no longer find answers,” said Gegham Stepanyan.
